Foot Scanning Technology
Our specialist scanning equipment and knowledge means we can
swiftly return you to a pain-free lifestyle.
Many also now realise that for the orthotic to work efficiently and to its full potential, the accompanying prescription that requests the corrective measures needed on the orthotic must be made by a practitioner that has a full working knowledge of the foot and lower limb.
3D Optical Laser ScannerIn line with our continual review and research of the latest techniques and innovations that constantly become available in the podiatry profession, we have for some time been looking at a new type of scanning system “3D optical laser scanning” to work in conjunction with our existing “vertical loading pressure analysis, Gait Scan system” We think we have now found that in the “Sharpe Shape 3D Optical Laser Scanner”
Gait ScanningThe key to better health might be correcting the structural problems in your feet! What your feet have to do with it. Your feet have a direct impact on the rest of your body. Like the foundation of a house, your feet support the weight of everything above them. When a small problem develops in your feet, the subtle change in the way you walk will cause a chain reaction of adjustments in your posture and walking mechanics. These adjustments can put stress on joints higher up your body, and lead to more serious problems. We have invested in the very latest equipment and software that can analyze your gait (walking pattern). Prescription orthotics (biomechanical medical appliances) can be made as a result that make corrections that will save you from pains. Research has shown that 60 - 70% of people have abnormally functioning feet. Structural problems in your feet can alter your walking pattern and cause pain throughout your body. Our state-of-the-art equipment can evaluate the way you walk (gait analysis) and determine if you are a candidate for prescription foot orthotics. A Computerised Gait Scan enhances our assessment of your feet and helps you understand how prescription orthotics work to restore proper foot function and relieve discomfort. What are prescription foot orthotics? Custom-made foot orthotics are devices worn in your shoes that provide correction and assistance to your feet, helping them to perform in a more efficient manner. Poor foot function may be the cause of pain you are experiencing in your feet, knees, hips or back.
Prescription orthotics can help relieve your discomfort by realigning and stabilizing the bones in your feet, in turn restoring your natural walking pattern.
What is a computerised Gait Scan? How does a computerised Gait Scan work? 1. Scans FootAs you walk across the plate, thousands of tiny sensors capture the distribution of pressure throughout the sole of your foot over time.
2. Maps Foot Pressure
3. Prints Report 4. Determines the need for Orthotic Therapy Many practitioners in disciplines other that Podiatry such as Osteopaths, Physiotherapists and Chiropractors and indeed other Podiatrists refer patients to Derek Harland as they are realising the benefits prescription orthotics can have in their treatment plan of a patient.
